Autumn in Wisconsin is full of excitement, festivals, and of course color. Vibrant shades of yellow, orange, and red can be viewed all throughout WI in September and October. Whether you enjoy fall from a bike trail, on a porch overlooking one of WI lakes or rivers, from the window, or on a hike – the colors of the season are sure to impress. One of our favorite tools for the fall is the Fall Color Report by Travel Wisconsin. The color on each county correlates to the color of the trees. Stop trying to predict when your favorite location will reach its peak coloring, use the tool.
Plan your fall getaway around the colors of Wisconsin. Use our simple MAP search which allows you to view properties by location. From here you can view photo galleries, descriptions, a map, amenities, and if the property is own water, there is a lake/river map available.

Studies Show That We All Need Vacations
We have all been there – when your schedule is so full that by the end of the day you wonder how you even did it. The economic challenges in America have encouraged workers to work even more. But research indicates that a break from every-day stress cannot be ignored.
The famous Framingham Heart Study found that a woman who vacations once every six years or less is eight times more likely to suffer from a chronic heart disease or a heart attack when compared to a woman who takes two or more vacations a year. Elain Eaker, co-author of the study states, “It shows how the body reacts to a lifestyle of stress, this is real evidence that vacations are important to your physical health.”
Another study at the University of Pittsburgh Mind-Body Center asked 1,399 participants how often they preformed leisure activities. The findings showed a direct relationship between physical and mental health and how often participants engaged in things that they enjoyed. Lowered stress levels, a slimmer waist, lowered blood pressure, and positive emotions can all be contributed to participants engaging in enjoyable activities.
It’s time we all take some time for ourselves. You don’t just want a vacation, studies show you need it. Over time, your weekend getaways and exciting vacation weeks will pay off. Not only will you see health improvements, expect a better mentality. Having something positive to look forward is satisfying.
Reading, biking, yoga, kayaking, skiing, what do you love? Take time to enjoy it!
It’s a Wisconsin tradition to head down to the crackling campfire at dusk. The roasting fire keeps everyone warm during cool evenings. Campfire songs and stories are shared, and who could forget the s’mores? It is a classic Wisconsin experience! Although many forget that a s’more an occasional hot dog aren’t the only open-flame-friendly food.
Tasty & simple campfire meals
- Chop chicken or beef and vegetables: onions, peppers, mushrooms, and cherry tomatoes (even pineapple)
- Slid the pieces onto a wooden or metal skewer
- Add salt, pepper, or a marinade
- Cook over open fire until the vegetables are soften and the meat is cooked through (about 15-20 min.)
- Cut potatoes into slices
- Feel free to add chopped onion, bacon bits, garlic, butter, or other seasonings
- Wrap the food well in aluminum foil
- Place the wrapped potatoes in the fire on the coals
- The time will depend on the strength of the fire and potatoes size (expect around 30-45 min.)
Pudgy Pies – invest in a pudgy pie iron, many can be found for $15-$25
- Butter 2 slices of bread and place one on the iron, butter side down
- The add your ingredients – this is were the creativity comes into play! Some enjoy a simple ham and cheese pie, others make a pizza pie (pizza sauce, cheese, pepperoni), or even a breakfast pie (egg, cheese, and ham)
- Take the other buttered slice of bread and place the buttered side up so it touches the iron
- Cook the pie much like a marshmallow – remembering to rotate the iron (can take just 1 min. to cook, but depends on fire)
Here’s my challenge to you: next time you’re around gathered around the campfire, try something new. Just remember to not forget about the s’more — it’s a classic for a reason.
Here’s one bike trail that even non-bikers will love. Throughout the biking trail near Sparta Wisconsin, there are three man-made tunnels. Bikers jump off their bike, turn on their flashlight, and walk through the 3/4 mile long tunnel. Once you reach the center of the walk, take a minute to turn off your flashlight and observe the blackness. Keep walking and soon you’ll see a small dot of light. So the saying “the light at the end of the tunnel,” well that’s exactly how it feels.
My family and I were in the area, kayaking, and thought we would go check it out. So without our bikes, we took a walk along the path and one of the tunnels. It’s an experience that everyone should see, at least once. While you’re updating your bucket-list and planning your vacation – remember us. Let’s explore Wisconsin!
